The Triple R School is a wildly innovative, independent, private two-year school for juniors and seniors. Its mission is to help students recover from past academic experiences that have failed them and to prepare these students for college and university study. Triple R School seeks to remove as many distractions as possible from the education process and return to learning by emphasizing Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic.
Pardon the old reference to the “Three Rs” of education, but they are very important in successful learning, especially at the college and university level…and unfortunately, these skills have been lost in the political, religious and economic stratification of the past 30 or so years.
The Triple R School provides an interdisciplinary curriculum that empowers students to learn and express themselves. A prime example is our mathematics curriculum: students will learn by any combination of lecture, reading and/or computer research. Then they demonstrate their subject knowledge by successfully completing exams that include: 1) basic algebraic manipulation; 2) answering real-life questions (word-problems); and 3) describing the process in a brief (3 paragraph) essay.
Triple R School’s interdisciplinary curriculum is evidenced by its 11th grade class schedule. The classes are: Algebra II, Reading, Writing, Applied Math and Research/Project/Assign-ment periods.
The truly innovative part of the Triple R School is that during the morning classes for the 11th graders, the seniors will be taking first year college classes at UAA. At noon, the seniors return for the Research/Project/Assignment period where they will: a) complete their assignments; b) be trained and act as mentors for the juniors; and c) receive academic support from the faculty.
In short, the Triple R School teaches students how to be independent and active learners by emphasizing the “Three Rs” of education, coaches students through their first year of college (32 semester hours), provides four opportunites to take the SAT and, lastly, allows students to mature by mentoring and helping a junior classman...ALL BEFORE THEY WOULD HAVE GRADUATED FROM A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL!
